I haven't had a chance to use it but it seems durable enough. Unlike other reviews I've read, the whistle works fine. It's high pitched but might get lost if you're too far out. I wouldn't rely on its compass for survival but that's not why I bought it. I got it just for a "just in case" mechanism. I slide it into a separate sheath I purchased. It sets in a woven strap which was made for these tactical pen types. I find the whistle makes it difficult to pull the device out of a sheath. It gets stuck on the material where it's cut inward but I doubt that can be helped with any whistle addition.

My sheath is new as well so I imagine it will loosen after time with some use. The glass breaker seems super sharp. You can remove the blade and use its space as a hidden compartment if you wish. But you'd need that to use the fire starter. So it's either hidden compartment or blade & fire starter. Again, I haven't used it so I can't attest to efficacy but I'm glad I have it sheathed on me as an EDC item in the woods.

It is very simple in construction, making it easy to work with and use. It is light and well made from good material. It could work as a item given to hiker, camper, or just a emergency item in general.

Rather than a $5 card and $20 bucks (or $50), I decided to go with a cool factor and it worked. Our neighbor's son was pretty excited to see something different from money when he was going into basic in a week...granted, he won't take this with him but the mode is set.

Saw this and thought it would be a great addition to my jump bag. I thought it was going to be too big, but it's perfect! I actually just put a S clamp, then stuck it in the Molly gear loops, and it was perfect. Also, make sure you screw the knife part in, or it will rattle. Glad I got this also because I got rid of 3 tools and replaced it with this. Space saver! the only thing I actually changed was that I took all of the fishing line off, and put more on that was twice as long.

The survival tool arrived in an inmarled black box which makes for a great gift because they would never know what's inside of it. The tool comes with about 2 feet of paracord which also doubles as a lanyard for it. The magnesium stick works well when used with the blade on the tool.

As far as the blade is concerned, it would be sharper but would be handy if the need arrises. I will probably replace the fishing line with a braided line jist for durability but the included line would be very useful and works. I would suggest checking the line and replacing as it ages but this goes for all fishing line. Over all, I believe this survival tool covers the basics and is good for anyone just getting into this sort of thing or would make a great gift idea!
